Add a pop of color to your daily look with this beautiful, multifunctional New York City Taxi Cab scarf. The image on this scarf is of the iconic New York City Taxi Cab.

Throughout the 19th century, the Taxi Cab became a mighty symbol of a growing metropolis with an on-the-go lifestyle. The first taxi cab company in New York City was Samuel’s Electric Carriage and Wagon Company in 1898. However, with the evolution of the automobile, Harry N. Allen imported 65 gasoline-powered cars from France in 1907 and started the New York Taxicab Company. The cabs were originally painted red and green, but Allen repainted them all yellow to be visible from a distance. With significant competitive growth, the Taxi Cab medallion system was implemented in 1937 allowing taxi cab drivers to operate which still exists today. In 1967, New York City ordered all “medallion taxis” to be painted yellow to help cut down on unofficial drivers and make official taxicabs more readily recognizable. Today there are tens of thousands medallions that exist, however continue to decrease year over year due to ride share services.
